The mangroves of Banyuwedang Bay stretch for about five kilometres inside the national park. You explore them by jukung, the traditional Balinese outrigger, moving slowly enough to watch the wildlife along the channels: kingfishers, egrets, herons, grey macaques and, at the water's edge, wild deer.
The guide explains how the mangrove ecosystem works and points out the main species, from Rhizophora to Sonneratia. On the afternoon departure, the boat continues out beyond the bay for sunset, with the volcanoes of East Java behind. Tours leave early in the morning or in the afternoon, with hotel transport, the guide, binoculars and water included.
