Late afternoon, above the bay
Riding in the Pemuteran Hills
A steady ride up through the dry hills behind Pemuteran, timed so you come back down as the light goes.
- Duration
- 3 hours
- Difficulty
- Easy
- From
- IDR 600.000 per person

The hills behind Pemuteran are dry savanna country, all long grass and lontar palms, and from the ridge the whole bay opens out below you with Java sitting on the horizon. It is a completely different landscape to the terraces most people picture when they think of Bali.
The horses are small, sure-footed and used to beginners, and the pace is a walk unless you want otherwise. Rides go late in the afternoon, so you are climbing in soft light and coming back down as the sun drops behind Java.
